Tangrams are believed to have originated from China during the Song Dynasty (960-1279) and were not introduced to the Western world until the 19th century when they were brought to Europe by trading ships. The goal of the game is to fit all of the pieces in to a shape without any overlapping.
Benefits: Tangrams is an excellent example of a spatial visualization/spatial reasoning game. As such it is a great way to exercise your brain and become better at tasks like map reading and assembling furniture. There are a host of other benefits to exercising your brain in this way including, according to recent research, potentially helping to prevent and slow down the progression of Parkinson’s Disease!
